Looking back, looking ahead.
So you know what you can build on today.
The story so far.
From the first idea in 2021 to today: the key steps.
2021
The concept for Prometheus
The idea for Prometheus was born.
April 2023
Project start
In April the idea became a project. In September we founded a civil-law partnership (GesbR).
December 2023
First prototype
We built our first browser prototype, with multiple-choice exercises on simplifying fractions. By the end of the month we had added further exercises on fractions, basic arithmetic and quadratic equations.
February 2024
Expanding into upper secondary
Between February and April we added exercises on functions and equations and, with differential calculus, the first upper-secondary topics.
March 2024
First exercise generator
In January the basic-arithmetic exercises gained a uniform way of calculating their wrong answers. The first exercise generator followed in March, and we also prepared the exercises for worksheets.
December 2024
Secure user sign-in
The prototype received secure sign-in based on a publicly available industry standard.
May 2025
Worksheets as PDFs
PDF export was added: worksheets with our exercises, ready to print.
August 2025
Launch of our first website
Our own website went online for the first time, with a survey asking for feedback.
September 2025
Built-in explanations
The first exercise types were given explanations for learners who answered wrongly or got stuck. By mid-December, all the other exercise types that existed at the time had followed.
January 2026
All under one roof
In November 2025 we began developing the exercise generators separately from the website. In January 2026 we brought everything we had built up to that point together under Prometheus Digital Education.
January 2026
Our own delivery platform
In late January we began building our own platform for delivering our exercises. In February it delivered its first exercises on demand, selected by area and type.
March 2026
Approval of exercise types
We approved exercise types from eleven areas for use.
April 2026
Company launch in Vienna
Prometheus Digital Education launched publicly as a company in Vienna.
May 2026
Exercises in English
Between mid-April and early May, every exercise type that existed at the time received an English version, from generation through to delivery.
May 2026
Real exercises on the website
For the first time, our website showed sample exercises straight from our generators: real exercises, not mock-ups.
June 2026
Developing the Moodle integration
We began turning our Moodle integration from a prototype into a version for live use. We built it on LTI 1.3, the widely used standard for learning platforms.
June 2026
Review for mathematical correctness
In late June we systematically reviewed our exercise bank for mathematical correctness, area by area, from percentages to differential calculus. This produced our first program to recalculate an exercise type’s solutions automatically.
July 2026
Quality standard for exercise types
We introduced a uniform quality standard for new exercise types, including the requirement that every type comes with its own program for recalculating its solutions.
July 2026
First exercises at university level
We developed our first university-level exercise types, covering logic, set theory, linear algebra and partial derivatives.
July 2026
Exercise bank for lower secondary
Fully automatically, we generated a lower-secondary exercise bank for review: 58,892 exercises in German and English. A checksum reveals any gap or change.
August 2026
First tests of the Moodle integration
In early August we set up the Moodle integration on our own server, where it passed its first functional tests. Shortly afterwards we connected our first Moodle test site.
August 2026
Website in three languages
Our website became trilingual, in German, English and Spanish. Shortly before, it had gained its own channel for enquiries.
September 2026
All exercise generators checked
In early September we checked all our exercise generators as one system: each one covered its full range of difficulty and had its own checking program.
September 2026
Prototype for interactive graphics
For the first time, our prototype recognised whether a point had been placed correctly in a coordinate system. This was our first step towards exercises with graphics.
In development.
What comes next, and how far along we are today.
As of 23 September 2026
Upper secondary and university, complete
In developmentThe remaining topics at both levels will be added.
Today: Upper secondary: largely available. University: partly available.

Exercises with graphics
In developmentFigures, diagrams, function graphs and geometric constructions as part of the exercise, plus exercises answered directly on the graphic.
Today: The exercises consist of text, formulas, coordinates and graphics data. You can already see an initial version and a conceptual demonstration on the “Use cases” page.

Error classes
In developmentEvery wrong answer is assigned to a named error class. This shows not only the mistake but also what kind of mistake lies behind it.
Today: The wrong answers are already built from typical mistakes.

Reworking the step-by-step explanations
In developmentIn future, the explanations will also address the wrong answer chosen and show where the mistake was.
Today: Every exercise has an explanation that works through the correct method step by step.

Every exercise reproducible
In developmentEvery exercise can be regenerated exactly. If a faulty exercise or a recurring problem is spotted, unique markers identify it immediately and unambiguously, and it can be traced back to its cause.
Today: Every delivered set contains a fixed, reproducible collection of exercises. It is versioned, and a checksum reveals any change.

Directly in Moodle
In developmentThe exercises run in Moodle as an external tool. Teachers add them as an activity; learners then solve the exercises and get instant feedback on whether their answer is right or wrong.
Today: In initial testing. Until it is ready, you can import our exercises manually into learning management systems as a SCORM package.

Book, pay, connect
In developmentPut together a package online, pay for it and have the integration with your platform set up automatically.
Today: We put every package together in discussion with you and get back to you within 48 hours.

Exercises in French
In developmentFrench is the next major language to be added, from generation through to delivery.
Today: Exercises are available in German, Spanish and English.

Where we are heading.
A simple right or wrong is not enough for us. Wherever learning happens digitally, every exercise should show which mistake lies behind a wrong answer, in formulas and graphics alike.
